FORMGEN II TUTORIAL
This tutorial will walk you through the creation of a basic invoice. You will
learn the main keys (functions) used in making a form, and will see how little
effort it really takes to create a form! To begin, start up FormGen II.
1) First we will create a border to frame the invoice. Hold the ALT key
down and press the letter B. From the prompt at the bottom, select
a border that has double lines (2), is 80 columns wide, and 60 rows
long.
2) Move the cursor to r2 (row), and c56 (column). Press F1 (to draw a single
line), and using the right arrow key, move the cursor over to c73. Now
move the cursor down to r4, across to column 56, and up to row 2. To
finish off the box, move the cursor one space to the right. Press F1
again to turn off the single line draw.
3) Create another box at r5, c56. This box will go over to c73 again, and
down to row 7.
4) Now we are going to draw a few lines to divide up the form. Move the
cursor down to r18. Press ALT F1. A single line will appear. Using the
CTRL and ALT keys together with F1 and F2 causes automatic drawing of
vertical and horizontal lines. When pressed, a line is drawn from the
cursor location, extending in both directions until it meets another line.
5) Draw a double line at r20, (ALT F2); a single at r22 (ALT F1), and
another double at r28 (ALT F2)
7) Now we will divide these lines up into the standard invoice sections.
Placing the cursor on r22 and c7, press CTRL F1 to draw a vertical line.
Do the same at columns 16, 53, and 66.
8) With your cursor still on c66, move it down to row 28. Press F1 to turn
single line draw on, and move the cursor down to r34, across to c80, and
back to c79. Press F1 to turn single line draw off.
9) We need to add some words to our invoice! Move the cursor to r21, c2 and
type QTY. Then move to c9, and type ITEM. At c27 type DESCRIPTION, and
at c56 type PRICE. Finally type TOTAL at c69.
10) Move the cursor to c56, r29, and type SUB TOTAL. At c56, r31 type TAX,
and at c56, r33 type TOTAL.
11) Move the cursor to r3, c57. We are going to add a title to our date and
invoice boxes. Since the boxes are small, we need to have the text
appear in the upper left corner. This is called "floating text". Press
CTRL O (the letter). This will leave a symbol on your screen to
indicate that the following text is "floating". Type the word INV #.
Move to r6 and, c57, and press CTRL 0, and type DATE.
12) Move the cursor to r3, and c27, and press ALT 6. Then type INVOICE.
13) Move the cursor to row 37, and press ALT D. ALT D is the key used to
delete a row. ALT I will insert a row. Press ALT D until the lower
border appear on row 38.
14) CONGRATULATIONS! The form is finished! You can add more to it, or
save it by pressing F9, selecting (1) and calling it INV.
